The Colored Musicians Club has several "House" Bands who rehearse & play at the club.

These bands include some of the best local jazz musicians and are frequently invited to play at regional community events. Local musicians are invited to join one or more of these groups if they want to be involved in Big Band/Jazz Band music. Many of the band members are retired persons who enjoy continuing their music, others are younger musicians who want to continue playing the music they love.




The George Scott Big Band

The George Scott Big Band was formed in 1997 and can be heard performing throughout Western New York at various public and private events. Performances are held weekly at the Colored Musician's Club on the corner of Broadway and Michigan in historic downtown Buffalo. Performances are Monday evenings 8 to 10 pm.



Ladies First Big Band

The Ladies First Big Band and Ladies First Combo, created by award-winning bassist Jennifer May, are all-female jazz groups based in the Western NY area.

Awarded the titles of "Buffalo's Best Big Band" and "Buffalo's Best Small Jazz Group", respectively, as judged by Artvoice magazine, the Big Band and Combo play out regularly in the Buffalo region at festivals, concerts, and private functions.



The Carol McLaughlin Big Band

Big Band with a full mellow sound. The screams of the high brass instruments, the low growl of the five saxes typical of a full band sax section, the plaintive moans of four lusty trombones.



Jazzline Trio

Jazzline is a unique group consisting of husband and wife team, Jennie Jones and Dennis Warne. They are well known for their supper-club performances at Cecelia's Ristorante & Martini Bar, and the historic Ulrich's restaurant as well as other fine dining establishments.



Taylor Made Jazz

"Van Taylor" has assembled an array of Musicians and World Class Entertainers. Taylor Made Jazz’s dynamic approach and smooth style has made them a hit to every audience they have entertained. Their world travels have taken them to Puerto Rico, Panama, Cuba, Italy, Greece, Spain, Germany, Egypt, Israel, Turkey Jordan, France and England. See the website>>



Malisa Kate Project

The Melissa Kate Project started in 2006 with the release of her album, Blind Faith. Then followed by the release of her 2nd CD Kissed By Kate in 2010 it spearheaded the powerful writing and performance of Melissa’s Sultry Cabaret Jazz and Blues.

Melissa also Sing for George Scott Big Band, from the historic Colored Musicians Club of Buffalo, NY, has featured Melissa Kate as their vocalist for the last five years. She has been honored to perform with the highenergy big band along with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra at Kleinhans Music Hall for the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame’s CONCERT FROM THE HEART, which raised money for music student’s scholarships and for the Food Bank of WNY. Joyce Willson-Nixon

The Tina Turner of Western New York, Joyce is hot, and Brings an edge that is as sharp as her performance. As Pop Vocalist of the international band Taylor Made Jazz, her reputation has spread world wide. Joyce has her own Band Called JWN which is self titled and available in the US Markets Performing rock, blues, country and pop music. Check out Joyce Wilson Nixon!



Larry Salters

Larry Salters A true Jazz Master Larry is a long time musician and educator of the Musicians Club. His band performs with an elegance and style that up hold the tradition of this institution of Jazz. Meet Mr. Salters and will have met a Legend.



Joyce Carolyn

Joyce Carolyn A true 1st lady of jazz. Joyce sings with many of the club big bands when called upon. Grace and charm with a voice you will remember, Joyce’s New Cd (You Can’t Make No Money Singin Jazz) has had Rave reviews and has aired on many internet stations around the world. Cadenza

Cadenza lead by Bryan Pullins, one of the house bands of the Colored Musicians Club and is one of Buffalo hottest small jazz ensembles. The group features some of Buffalo finest musicians including Bryan on horns, Tom Smith and Les Davis on keys, Barry Boyd on bass, Robert Garrett on drums and the smooth and sultry voice of Ms. Lady Lita. Cadenza performances are mixed with a variety of jazz instrumental and vocal styles including Bebop, Swing, Smooth & Contemporary and even some top 40 hits! You can usually hear the group play two Sundays out of every month at the club and they are often featured at local Jazz Festivals and private engagements.



Will Holton: A Young Lion A Rising Star

Will Holton Just released his own live CD and Video called "Love Stories Untold Volume 1". Check out the Sounds of Will Holton at www.willholton.com. Holton made his international writing and publishing debut writing the song "Love You A Lifetime" for 2x Grammy Nominee NAJEE on his new album "Mind Over Matter" from Heads Up International Music Company, which also features "Eric Benet and Jeff Lorber".

Holton will co-produce NAJEE’s “1st LIVE CD”. This CD was released in 2010 on Will's sophomore album entitled “Face to Face” featuring Neo-Soul King jazz vibraphonist Roy Ayers.



William Murphy Jazz Quartet

William Murphy (teacher, copyist, multi-instrumentalist) is best known for his association with jazz greats such as trumpeteer Eddie Henderson, vocalist Angela Stribling, and piano legend Al Tinney. In more recent years he has recorded with former Ahmad Jamal bass great Sabu Adeyola, saxophonist Bobby Militello, Ray Mingus & The 5th Element, and The George Scott Big Band. Read more>>
