Youth Music Lessons

The Colored Musicians Club has several "House" Bands who rehearse & play at the club.

These bands include some of the best local jazz musicians and are frequently invited to play at regional community events. Local musicians are invited to join one or more of these groups if they want to be involved in Big Band/Jazz Band music. Many of the band members are retired persons who enjoy continuing their music, others are younger musicians who want to continue playing the music they love.

The George Scott Big Band

The George Scott Big Band was formed in 1997 and can be heard performing throughout Western New York at various public and private events. Performances are held weekly at the Colored Musician's Club on the corner of Broadway and Michigan in historic downtown Buffalo. Performances are Monday evenings 8 to 10 pm.

Ladies First Big Band

The Ladies First Big Band and Ladies First Combo, created by award-winning bassist Jennifer May, are all-female jazz groups based in the Western NY area. Awarded the titles of "Buffalo's Best Big Band" and "Buffalo's Best Small Jazz Group", respectively, as judged by Artvoice magazine, the Big Band and Combo play out regularly in the Buffalo region at festivals, concerts, and private functions.

The Carol McLaughlin Big Band

Big Band with a full mellow sound. The screams of the high brass instruments, the low growl of the five saxes typical of a full band sax section, the plaintive moans of four lusty trombones.

Art Anderson's Modern Sounds

Directed by Arthur L. Anderson, the "Modern Sounds" include a 17 piece Big Band, a 9 piece combo and quartet and features the vocals of Joyce Carolyn. Their specialty is Count Basie tunes, and Basie style arrangements.

Jazzline Trio

Jazzline is a unique group consisting of husband and wife team, Jennie Jones and Dennis Warne. They are well known for their supper-club performances at Cecelia's Ristorante & Martini Bar, and the historic Ulrich's restaurant as well as other fine dining establishments.

Taylor Made Jazz

"Van Taylor" has assembled an array of Musicians and World Class Entertainers. Taylor Made Jazz’s dynamic approach and smooth style has made them a hit to every audience they have entertained. Their world travels have taken them to Puerto Rico, Panama, Cuba, Italy, Greece, Spain, Germany, Egypt, Israel, Turkey Jordan, France and England.

Malisa Kate Project

In 1999 Melissa was engulfed in the NYC jazz world, and transformed into a powerful jazz vocalist by a unique band that merged hip-hop and swing. In 2003 International vocalist Melissa Kate began her artistic development with the award-winning, top-music producing organization, Van Taylor Production and Taylor Made Jazz. She now sings with the George Scott Big Band, travels internationally with Taylor Made Jazz, and is developing and promoting her new band, the Melissa Kate Project.
